Nano-based drug delivery systems for biomedical applications
Co-organized with Istituto Superiore di Sanità
Chairs: Giuseppina BOZZUTO & Maria CONDELLO, Istituto Superiore di Sanità

Nanomedicine and nano delivery systems represent key research fields due to increasing employment of materials in the nanoscale range as tools to deliver therapeutic or diagnostic agents to specific organ/tissue sites in a controlled manner. Nanocarriers are being continuously designed to overcome problems associated with conventional chemotherapy, as lack of specificity, low drug stability/bioavailability, systemic toxicity, and onset of drug-resistant phenotypes. Several nanocarriers have allowed improving the therapeutic efficacy of drugs (both synthetic and from natural sources) in preclinical studies and, some of them, also in clinical trials. The workshop “Nano-based drug delivery systems for biomedical applications” will deal with the nanosystem design for drug delivery and preclinical assessment for biomedical applications including cell/tissue targeting, therapy and imaging.
